Yoga & Movement

"Vinyasa arises from merging breath and movement into one another. Asanas become the pearls on a thread, thoughts like raindrops in the ocean, practice becomes an energetic track in the ether, the breath like the rush of the sea…"

What is Vinyasa Flow Yoga

In Vinyasa Flow Yoga the breath begins and the movement follows through a sequence of asanas. Surya Namaskar/ Sun Salutation is a perfect example of a Vinyasa.

I teach a very fluid form of Vinyasa Flow Yoga, drawing on inspiration from my beautiful teacher Shiva Rea and Dance background. I incorporate Pulsing Vinyasas, Rhythmic Vinyasas and Body Vinyasas. When we pulse in a pose we are mirroring our movements at a cellular level. By activating the fluid body we release toxins, lubricate joints, improve nerve function and assist any healing process.

The term Vinyasa can be broken down into its Sanskrit roots to find its meaning:
- Nyasa
denotes 'to place'
- Vi denotes 'in a special way'
To flow is to move and to move is to travel along the breath-wave that is always present, bringing us closer and closer to our centre.

What to expect in class

Each class has its own unique flow depending on the cycle of the moon, the seasons and the energy of the group.

We begin with a meditation where you’re invited to set your intention, then move into a movement meditation and bless the space with a collective OM. From here you will experience a variety of Surya Namaskars (Sun Salutations) to warm and invigorate your body.

The class continues to flow and you may find yourself facing different directions as we explore different asanas/ poses within Yoga. Safe adjustments are given to ensure you are embodying the Yoga safely and music is used as a tool to help enhance your experience and guide you.

Towards the end of the class we may end with some pranayama or inversions before ending the journey by melting into shavasana/ relaxation.
